Found in the Yard: A Tale of Loss

The junkyard is not a sad place. It's a place where people can gawk at neat finds and acquire cheap parts to keep their current pride and joy on the road. It's like an open casket viewing but it's okay to harvest organs. However, every once in a while, a car comes along that can really elicit some emotion. This 1977 Chrysler Cordoba is one of them.

The unabashedly green interior is the real highlight and focal point of the car. It's evidence of a time when you could choose blue, green, red and white interiors to suit the exterior color. Most new cars only offer a black or tan interior with your choice of "accent" colors if you're lucky. Not here. From the door panels to the the dashboard everything is a lovely shade of green. This Cordoba might lack "rich Corinthian leather" but lacks nothing in the style department.

At this point, a few of you are probably noticing that something in the interior shots looks askew. The seat frames are bent and the rear bench seat is pushed in quite a ways on the right hand side.

This is why. After surviving over three decades of rising fuel prices and Canadian winters, all the green greatness in the world couldn't save this magnificent boat from being fatally T-boned. Looking at the car post-mortem, it's impossible to tell who's at fault, but no matter where the fault lies, it's always sad to see an old car die in this way. We can all hope this battleship crushed a Camry as its last dying act. Swing low, sweet malaise chariot.

    1. Glad you like it! Those seats didn't last the day and some guy hauled them out to use in his van.
